Interesting upcoming museum season

DADA – National Gallery of Art
February 19 – May 14

Anselm Kiefer – Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
June 18 – September 10, 2006!

Sean Scully – Phillips Collection
October 22 – January 8

I’ll keep the pre-show comments to myself, but for the record I think all three of these will be must see shows this year. I know that people will say that Scully is a good painter but seems to come up a little short in bigger overviews of his work, and people say that Kiefer is a bit “conservative” – I disagree with both thoughts. I love the power of AK’s paintings as well as the pure optical quality – and they always take over the space they are in – I can’t say that about a lot of others work. Scully is just as strong – although I guess you can’t really talk about SS as a “optical” painter – however he works for me from both a conceptual as well as a visual/optical approach.

The DADA show I’ve been waiting to see since I was in high school.
