Alvin Lustig gave graphic design a very good name. He was a true artist who believed that design was in fact it’s own art form, not just a means for hitting a sales goal. He embedded aspects of Modern art into his commercial graphic design practice in such an impactful and powerful way that his influence is still relevant today. Although he was a generalist, he is best known for his books and book jackets, magazines, interiors, and textiles.
Master Printer, Luther Davis at Axelle Fine Art, Brooklyn, NY. recently re-printed 4 incredible book jackets designed by Lustig back in the mid-40s for author’s Arthur Rimbaud, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Franz Kafka. They are each an edition of 100 and they are only $100.00 each. You can get your very own here.
