This image has a rich painterly quality\u2013\u2013and it should,  it was taken when Steichen still had aspirations to be a painter. <\/p>\n<p>Following the war Steichen returned to Voulangis and destroyed all of his paintings.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy Roses, Voulangis, France, 1914.
