Brian Eno presents The Quiet Club, a sound and light installation that uses reflecting mobiles.

"I want the music to be as much as possible a continuous condition of the environment…in the same way as a painting is"

Ok, this is kind of non-news, but I'm a big Eno weenie. BE is exhibiting at the Lyon Biennale this fall. Although I've always enjoyed his approach to music (especially pop music) as worthy of the same kind of thought that fine art gets. (please note: I realize that music is a fine art - I'm not putting one art over the other.)

Saatchi to sell Chapmans

From the Art Newspaper...

Charles Saatchi is to sell his collection of art by Jake and Dinos Chapman. The Art Newspaper understands that the artists’ gallery, White Cube, has made an offer to Mr Saatchi for the works which include the Chapman Family Collection, a group of sculptures carved in mock African style with references to McDonalds. They were first shown at White Cube in 2002 and bought by Mr Saatchi shortly afterwards. Unlike Damien Hirst, who bought several of his own works back from the collector last year, the Chapmans say they have no interest in doing so themselves

Sick of goodbyes, Monoprint, oil on paper, 9" x 9"

Showing in Baltimore this fall/winter

I have been invited to show in a group show in Baltimore this fall/winter. More details later. (as I get them) I'll be showing quite a few of the "Rapid Prototypes" - initial reaction has been really strong - so I'm pretty excited to show them more formally.

Going to Miami this winter?

I am. let me know if you are going to art basel miami. I plan to attend both ABM as well as the AQUA Arts Fair (since I'm staying in the ungodly cheap hotel right next door). I plan on dropping by a couple of studios as well.

I've got a couple of pieces in a fund raiser that week in Miami as well. So all in all it should be an interesting long weekend.

Interesting upcoming museum season

DADA - National Gallery of Art
February 19 - May 14

Anselm Kiefer - Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
June 18 - September 10, 2006!

Sean Scully - Phillips Collection
October 22 - January 8

I'll keep the pre-show comments to myself, but for the record I think all three of these will be must see shows this year. I know that people will say that Scully is a good painter but seems to come up a little short in bigger overviews of his work, and people say that Kiefer is a bit "conservative" - I disagree with both thoughts. I love the power of AK's paintings as well as the pure optical quality - and they always take over the space they are in - I can't say that about a lot of others work. Scully is just as strong - although I guess you can't really talk about SS as a "optical" painter - however he works for me from both a conceptual as well as a visual/optical approach.

The DADA show I've been waiting to see since I was in high school.
